Chris Mears, Jack Laugher planning "secret" dive for Olympics

Chris Mears reveals that he and synchro partner Jack Laugher are working on a "world-changing" new dive for the Rio Olympics.

Chris Mears and Jack Laugher have been working on an 'unprecedented' new dive ahead of next year's Olympic Games in Rio.

Team GB's 3m synchro pair have been competing together since the 2014 season, earning gold at the Commonwealth games the same year, and are currently ranked fourth in the world.

"We're keeping [our new dive] a secret because nobody does this dive, it's going to be a world-changing thing," Mears told the Daily Mail.

"We know we can get a medal at the moment with our current list but we could actually out-dive the Russians and Chinese at their best with this new dive. The question is, do you play it safe or go all out to try and win?"

Mears and Laugher's most complicated dive in their current routine is a 4-1/2 forward somersault, which comes with a 3.8 degree of difficulty.
