Great Britain's Jack Laugher wins 3m bronze at World Championships

Great Britain's Jack Laugher wins bronze in the men's 3m final for his first individual medal at the FINA World Championships.

Great Britain's Jack Laugher has won his first individual medal at the FINA World Championships by claiming bronze in the men's 3m final in Kazan.

The Leeds-based diver, who is ranked number one in the world at 3m, threatened to take gold, but in the end had to settle for bronze behind He Chao (555.05) of China and Ilia Zakharov (547.60), the Olympic champion, from Russia.

Laugher (528.90) led after the first two rounds but began to slip behind as the competition wore on, and he almost missed out on a medal as China's Cao Yuan finished just five points behind him.

It is Laugher's second medal of the Championships after he and partner Chris Mears took the bronze in the 3m synchro event.

Germany's Patrick Hausding dived in the first round, but then pulled out injured for the remainder of the final.
