England's Tom Daley wins prelim to dive last in final

England diver Tom Daley recovers from an indifferent start to win his 10m platform preliminary at the Commonwealth Games.

England's Tom Daley has earned the right to dive last in tonight's 10m platform final after recovering from a slow start to win this afternoon's preliminary.

The defending Commonwealth champion of this event was rooted to the foot of the standings after scoring just 111.30 from his opening two dives.

However, Daley, who won silver with James Denny in last night's 10m synchro, soon surged to the summit and won the heat with a six-dive total of 488.85.

There was little to lose for each participant inside the Royal Commonwealth Pool by virtue of the fact that all 11 divers were automatically guaranteed to be present in the final.

Nevertheless, the minimal risk did not stop 14-year-old Matthew Dixon from showcasing his abilities, as the young English talent finished 10th with a total of 365.65, while Denny posted a 408.40 in sixth position.

Tonight's showpiece is scheduled to begin at 7.30pm.
