There was also a bronze for Team England as Nick Robinson-Baker and Freddie Woodward finished third behind Australia's Grant Nel and Matthew Mitcham.

Laugher and Mears were runaway victors, opening up a sizable lead after the fourth round of dives and going on to post a score of 431.94, with Nel and Mitchman some way back on 403.14.

Robinson-Baker and Woodward, who has been tipped as a star of the future by Olympic medallist Tom Daley, finished strongly to pip the Malaysian pair to the final spot on the podium in Glasgow.

Laugher had already won gold in the 1m springboard and silver in the 3m springboard competitions.
