Adrian Lewis pleased with win over Raymond van Barneveld

Adrian Lewis says that a quick start was the key to his victory over Raymond van Barneveld at the UK Open.

Adrian Lewis was dreaming of his first UK Open title on Saturday night after dismantling Raymond van Barneveld to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Lewis produced an impressive display to beat 'Barney' 9-2 in Minehead, and the two-time world champion believes that a quick start was the key to his victory over the Dutchman, who is known as one of the game's finest frontrunners.

"I had to get into Raymond straight away and I did that," Lewis told reporters. "I kept the pressure on him and did a good job today, and hopefully I can go all the way now on Sunday."

Earlier on Saturday, Lewis scraped past Ronny Huybrechts, fighting back from 7-3 down to secure a 9-8 win courtesy of a 13-darter in the final leg.

After that match, Lewis said: "Ronny started like a train and kept me under pressure all the way through the game. The 167 he hit was great, but fortunately he came off the boil and I came good in the end.

"I had to dig deep, but that will stand me in good stead now for the rest of the tournament."

Lewis will take on Mensur Suljovic in the last eight at lunchtime today, with the semis and the final due to take place this evening.
