Bradley Wiggins has said that 'dreams can come true' after he became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France.

The 32-year-old confirmed the historic triumph on Sunday, with Team Sky teammate Mark Cavendish winning the final stage of the famous race.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone for the support all the way around," he said. "It has been a magical couple of weeks for the team and British Cycling.

"Sometimes dreams come true and to my mother over there, her son has now won the Tour de France. Have a safe journey home and don't get too drunk tonight."

Once the celebrations have finished Wiggins will turn his attention to representing Team GB at the upcoming Olympic Games.
