Lampre-Merida's Chris Horner has revealed that the illness that has plagued him over the summer will not cost him his shot at defending his Vuelta a Espana title later this month.
The 42-year-old, who is currently riding the Tour of Utah, has been battling a chest infection he picked up before the Tour de France.
"This is my third round of antibiotics. I think I've been on a steady stream of antibiotics since probably about 10 days before the Tour de France," Horner told reporters.
"From 10 days before the Tour until now, I'm sure there's been some kind of antibiotics in my system the whole time. So whatever I got I can't seem to clear up.
"I think I'm on the right path to win the Vuelta. It's unfortunate that I don't finish the antibiotics until this race is over."
The Vuelta a Espana begins with a 12.6km team time trial in Jerez de la Frontera on August 23.
