Jason Kenny "happy to be in the mix"

Team England cyclist Jason Kenny is happy to "be in the mix" of top riders again following his silver medal in the individual sprint at the Commonwealth Games today.

Team England cyclist Jason Kenny has said that he was "happy to be in the mix" of top riders in the individual sprint at the Commonwealth Games today.

Kenny struggled through qualifying on the opening day of action yesterday but still managed to make it all the way to the gold medal race this afternoon, where he was beaten by New Zealand's Sam Webster.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist admitted to a twinge of disappointment having missed out on the ultimate prize, but he was generally happy with his performance.

"There is always disappointment when you get silver a little bit because it's always nice to get gold. But at the end of the day I'm just happy to be in the mix of it really," he told reporters.

"You're talking fractions that we missed out on a gold, so we're kind of right at the sharp end, competing with some of the best boys in the world. I just enjoy racing at the end of the day and I enjoy racing well.

"The guys here today are all pushing really hard and were doing good quality races, and it makes you think about it and try new things - being aggressive and trying to control the race and I quite enjoy that, that's what I like doing. With the crowd getting behind you as well, it really helps."

Kenny has now won two silver medals in Glasgow having also finished second in the team pursuit on Thursday.
