Half-centuries from Kraigg Brathwaite and Marlon Samuels salvaged the West Indies some hope as they reached 147-2 before rain stopped play on day three of the second Test against South Africa.
Having lost a couple of wickets cheaply just before tea, Samuels quickly got off the mark in the evening session and scored 60 off 92 balls before the light started to fade.
Brathwaite continued his patient innings, going past the 50-run mark shortly after the match resumed, before reaching 65 before the close of play.
The day was brought to an end slightly early, though, as the umpires took the players off for bad light before it started to rain at Port Elizabeth, with the tourists still 270 runs behind heading into day four.
