West Indies can win the World Twenty20 after progressing to the Super Eights, according to captain Darren Sammy.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy has claimed that his side are capable of winning the ICC World Twenty20.

The explosive Caribbean outfit lost their opening match to Australia, but have advanced to the Super Eight stage of the competition on run rate after today's no result against Ireland.

Despite not having a tournament victory to their name, Sammy has revealed that there is a 'strong belief' in the dressing room that they are potential winners of the trophy.

"A strong point for us is the belief we have in the dressing room that once we play to our full potential the quality we have we could go all the way. But we have got to take it one game at a time," he said.

"We did what we had to today to get through to the next stage and we've got to focus again and hope to come through the Super Eights into the semi-finals."

West Indies are ranked fifth in the ICC Twenty20 rankings.
