Mark Robinson worried by Ed Joyce fitness

Sussex head coach Mark Robinson admits that he is concerned by Ed Joyce's fitness as his captain prepares for Ireland's World Cup campaign.

Sussex head coach Mark Robinson has admitted that he is concerned about the fitness of Ed Joyce ahead of the World Cup.

Joyce will prepare for the tournament with Ireland by playing against Afghanistan and Scotland in a tri-series in Dubai, and Robinson is hoping that the 36-year-old can manage his long-standing injury problems during the hectic schedule.

"Ed has got to manage his hip and is going into a high-intensity World Cup. I'll be happy when he is back home and safe," Robinson, who is currently coaching the England Lions in South Africa, told BBC Sussex.

"He is a bit of a treasured possession at the moment. He is a big player for us and an outstanding captain."

Joyce was Sussex's leading scorer in the 2014 County Championship with 1,398 runs.
