The hosts, who resumed the day on 99-1, added 63 runs during the morning session as Kumar Sangakkara made his way past 50.

Sri Lanka's dominance with the bat continued after lunch as Mahela Jayawardene combined with Sangakkara to register an unbeaten 108-run partnership at tea.

During the afternoon session, Sangakkara had also brought up his century, but he was unable to add to his total before the close of play as rain washed out the final two hours.

Sri Lanka will resume day four still 199 runs behind Pakistan, but they currently have eight wickets still intact.
