Morne van Wyk inspires South Africa to consolation win over West Indies

Morne van Wyk registers an unbeaten 114 as South Africa beat West Indies by 69 runs in Durban to prevent their visitors from earning a T20 series whitewash.

South Africa have beaten the West Indies by 69 runs in Durban tonight to earn a consolation victory after losing the Twenty20 series.

The visitors went into the contest boasting a 2-0 lead, but the Proteas salvaged some pride as an unbeaten 114 from Morne van Wyk inspired the hosts to the win.

Reeza Hendricks (42) and David Wiese (21) also did some damage with the bat as Justin Ontong's side finished their overs on 195-3.

Sheldon Cottrell, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard were all among the wickets for the tourists.

Despite disappointing scores from Dwayne Smith (5) and Marlon Samuels (6) at the top of the West Indies' batting order, Lendl Simmons helped to steady his side with 49 off 36 balls.

West Indies tried in vain to dig away at their 195-run target, with Pollard (20*) and Bravo (12) producing the most notable contributions at the crease, but it was not enough for the whitewash.
