The Perth Scorchers are through to the last four of the Big Bash T20 League after beating the Adelaide Strikers by 98 runs.

The Perth Scorchers have clinched a place in the semi-finals of the Big Bash T20 League by defeating the Adelaide Strikers by a mammoth 98 runs.

A place in the knockout rounds was up for grabs for both sides heading into the match and while the Scorchers have secured their place in the semis, the Strikers could still progress into the finals depending on tomorrow's result between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Brisbane Heat.

The Scorchers took to the crease first to set the chase with Shaun Marsh and Herschelle Gibbs, who had a strong innings by scoring 54 before getting bowled out by Brad Young, while Marsh racked up 79 runs before leaving the field and left his side in a strong position.

Adam Voges added to the Scorchers run-rate by snatching 36 but wickets began to tumble as Kane Richardson dismissed two players, while Shaun Tait grabbed a wicket of his own.

The Strikers were given a chase of 190 to win the contest but it was a dismal start for the home side, who lost Michael Klinger for a duck in the first over, while opening batsman Travis Head could only muster four runs before getting dismissed by Jason Behrendorff.

The Strikers continued to struggle as Scorchers bowlers Alfonso Thomas and Nathan Coulter-Nile took control and nabbed three wickets apiece to stutter the home side and get them all out for 91 in the penultimate over.
