Melbourne Renegades remain unbeaten in the Twenty20 Big Bash League after snatching victory over Sydney Thunder by five wickets with 10 balls remaining.
Sydney took to the crease to set the chase for the Renegades through opening batsmen Usman Khawaja and Chris Gayle, but the home side were rattled when they lost Gayle to just 12 runs after he was bizarrely run out.
The 33-year-old tried to return to his crease but his bat got caught behind him and he was unable to hit home before the ball crashed into the stumps.
Sydney ran into trouble midway through the Renegades' 20 overs after Chris Rogers, Azhar Mahmood, Sean Abbott and Cameron Borgas all were dismissed for under 10 runs.
The home side managed to rack up a score of 116-7 after their innings, which left the Renegades to chase with Daniel Harris and Aaron Finch.
Finch managed to set the pace for the Renegades but was eventually dismissed on 31 runs, while Gayle got his revenge by running out Ben Rohrer for 27.
Renegades required 11 runs with five wickets and 20 balls remaining and Peter Nevill and William Sheridan were able to see it through and pick up the points.
