Mahela Jayawardene insists that Sri Lanka have the capability to win the World Twenty20 on Sunday evening.

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has claimed that the World Twenty20 final provides an opportunity for him to make up for previous tournament disappointments.

The hosts face the West Indies in Colombo on Sunday, with Jayawardene targeting his first major tournament victory after losing in three finals between 2007 and 2011.

Jayawardene said: "We were not good enough to win those finals, but we believe we have the capacity to win this one.

"It's a great opportunity for us. Unfortunately we've not won the last three finals but we will try to rectify that.

"Throughout the tournament the expectation has been the same, but we've done the little things right and we will continue to do that."

Windies batsman Chris Gayle has backed his side to lift the trophy on Sunday evening.
