Injury rules Kevin Pietersen out of Indian Premier League

A calf injury forces batsman Kevin Pietersen to withdraw from the remainder of the Indian Premier League.

Ex-England batsman Kevin Pietersen will play no further part in the ongoing Indian Premier League because of a calf muscle tear.

The 35-year-old suffered the injury while in action for the Pune Rising Supergiants against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.

"Over & out, India! Horrible tear in my calf. Sad to be leaving a really great bunch of boys. London bound for a summer off," he wrote on Instagram.

Pietersen also confirmed that he will not return to action until November, when he is expected to feature in South Africa's Ram Slam Twenty20 event.
