Recent England one-day international debutant Joe Root has insisted that he is happy to bowl if that is what is required of him.
Although only used as an occasional bowler for his county, Yorkshire, and having not been required with the bat, Root helped to slow the run rate in the recent ODI against India and played an important role in England's win.
"[Being used only as a bowler] probably hasn't happened since I was 10 or 11 years old, playing my first men's cricket, but it was fantastic," The Independent quotes Root as saying. "I've been working hard on the bowling to give the captain as many options as possible out there.
"I need to make sure it is going to be a really big asset for me in the future and take any chances of having as many options as I can to give myself the best chance of selection."
England are 1-0 up in the five-match ODI series with India.
