Joe Root "gutted" to miss England's Twenty20s against West Indies

Joe Root says that he is "gutted" to miss England's Twenty20 series against the West Indies with a broken thumb, but is "desperate" to return for the World T20.

England batsman Joe Root has expressed his disappointment in having to miss the Twenty20 series against the West Indies in Barbados.

The 23-year-old was forced out of the three-match contest after breaking his thumb during Wednesday's one-day international victory.

There are doubts that Root could miss the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, but the Yorkshire cricketer is hopeful that he will return to fitness in time

Root wrote on Twitter: "Gutted to be home early but am desperate to get back fit for the World Cup. Good luck out there boys in the t20s #getthejobdone."

The tournament gets underway on March 16.
