Joe Root to miss Twenty20s against West Indies

Joe Root will miss the rest of England's fixtures against the West Indies with a broken thumb.

Joe Root will miss England's Twenty20 matches against the West Indies, with the young batsman having broken his thumb during Wednesday's one-day win.

Root is expected to fly back to England on Thursday to have a scan on the injury, which was picked up after he was struck on the thumb by the third ball he faced during his innings.

The injury could now cast doubts over Root's fitness for this month's World T20 tournament in Bangladesh, which gets underway on March 16.

England's opening game of the tournament will take place against New Zealand six days after the competition's opening match.
