Incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves opens door for Kevin Pietersen return

Incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves hints that Kevin Pietersen could be allowed to return to the England side.

Incoming England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves has suggested that Kevin Pietersen could return to the national team.

Pietersen has not played for England since his public fallout with the ECB in the wake of the side's disastrous 2013-14 Ashes tour of Australia.

Despite his exile from the England setup, the 34-year-old has always insisted that he wants to play for his country again.

Graves has now claimed that the batsman could be able to work his way back into the team, if he concentrates on county cricket rather than competitions such as the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League.

"The first thing he has to do if he wants to get back is start playing county cricket," he told BBC Sport. "The selectors and the coaches are not going to pick him if he's not playing, it's as simple as that. I'll leave it at that."

Graves is due to start his role as ECB chairman in May after being elected last week.
