Stuart Broad: 'It is an exciting time for England'

Stuart Broad claims that he is excited by the potential of the England squad ahead of the World Cup next year.

Stuart Broad has claimed that it is an exciting time for England ahead of next year's 50-over World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The one-day international squad have been criticised for their performances in the series against India, who are currently leading 3-0 with one match remaining.

However, Broad believes that England will be fully prepared when the tournament begins, and is expecting Alastair Cook to lead the team through a successful campaign.

"There is still time for players to put their hands up for selection, even those outside the set-up, so it's an exciting time to be involved as an England cricketer," the seam bowler told Sky Sports News.

"There has been a lot of stuff in the papers recently about the troubles for English cricket, but we have not played our strongest side since the ICC Champions Trophy last summer, and we got to the final then of a world tournament.

"We will be fresh and very focused on the World Cup. I expect us to do well."

Broad will undergo surgery on a long-term knee problem this week.
