Mooen Ali 'excited' ahead of first Test at Lord's

Moeen Ali admits that he is 'proud and excited' to have been selected in England's Test squad for the first time.

Moeen Ali has admitted that he is "proud" to have been called up to England's Test squad for the first time ahead of today's meeting with Sri Lanka at Lord's.

The 26-year-old, who has also featured in six T20s and three ODIs for England, could be one of three men to make their Test bow along with opening batsman Sam Robson and seamer Chris Jordan.

"I've played quite a few Test matches in the back garden with my two brothers and this one is quite different, but it's a lot more exciting and I know they'll be proud," Ali is quoted as saying by the Evesham Journal.

"I know my brothers and my dad will be very happy to see me play. I'm more happy for them than anyone else.

"To do this for people of faith, for the community where I'm from and everyone from Worcestershire, I'm very proud of that."

If Ali, Robson and Jordan all play a part against Sri Lanka it will be the first time since 1988 that three England players have made their Test bow in the same game at Lord's.
