Mark Ramprakash has backed the decision of the England and Wales Cricket Board to select Sam Robson for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
Robson is averaging over 50 for Middlesex in the County Championship this season, and former England batsman Ramprakash believes that it is the right time for 24-year-old to display his skills on the international stage.
"He is an old school opener in many ways, he has a simple, orthodox technique that should stand him in good stead for the challenge of Test cricket," the Middlesex batting coach told The Mirror.
"Allied to his simple method is a temperament ideally suited to Test cricket.
"He is in a good place right now and I think this is the perfect time for him to get this chance as England look to move forward with a new group of players."
Robson is expected to open the batting with Alastair Cook in the first Test at Lord's next Thursday.
