England's Moeen Ali banned from wearing pro-Gaza wristbands

England batsman Moeen Ali is banned from wearing wristbands showing support for Gaza in the third Test against India.

England batsman Moeen Ali has been banned from wearing wristbands showing support for Gaza for the remainder of the third Test against India.

The Worcestershire player wore bands saying "Free Palestine" and "Save Gaza" on the second day in Southampton.

The ECB had cleared the 27-year-old to wear the bands, however the decision has been overturned by ICC match referee David Boon.

"The ICC Equipment and Clothing Regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match," the ICC said in a statement.

"Moeen Ali was told by the match referee that whilst he is free to express his views on such causes away from the cricket field, he is not permitted to wear the wristbands on the field of play and warned not to wear the bands again during an international match."

The England team will wear the logo of the Help for Heroes charity on their shirts on the third day of the Test, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
