Misbah-ul-Haq smashes fastest ever Test fifty as Pakistan lead surpasses 500

Misbah-ul-Haq hits the fastest ever Test fifty as Pakistan reach lunch at 210-3 to extend their lead to more than 500 runs over Australia at lunch on day four of the second Test.

Misbah-ul-Haq has hit the fastest ever Test fifty as Pakistan have extended their lead over Australia to more than 500 runs after reaching lunch at 210-3 on day four of the second Test in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan began the day in control, resuming on 61-2 with a second-innings lead of 370 runs, and the impressive duo of Azhar Ali and Younis Khan asserted Pakistan's control once more to take them past 150.

There was brief respite for Australia when Steve Smith dismissed Khan (46) lbw, but the Aussies' misery was resumed just two balls later as Peter Siddle dropped the simplest of catches from Misbah-ul-Haq's mistimed cover drive and it paved the way for the Pakistan captain to take centre stage.

He smashed 16 runs in the 45th over alone as Smith saw four consecutive deliveries hammered over the boundary and he brought up the fastest ever Test half-century shortly before lunch, reaching 52 after facing just 21 balls from a beleaguered Australian attack.
