British canoe sprinter finishes fifth in 1000m heat

British canoe sprinter James Styan finishes fifth in the 1000m sprint heats at the European Games in Baku.

British canoe sprinter James Styan will need to race again in order to qualify for the Canoe C1 1000m final at the European Games in Baku.

Styan finished fifth in the second heat with a time of 4:11.007, and will race again later on today.

With the top three in each heat advancing straight to the final, Styan will need to place in the top two of the semi-final if he is to progress.

Germany's Sebastian Brendel set the fastest time of the heats, finishing in 3:54.890.
