Joe Cordina determined to claim gold

Joe Cordina is going for gold at the Commonwealth Games after beating David Gauthier in the -60kg boxing event to move into the quarter-finals.

Wales boxer Joe Cordina has expressed an ambition to win gold at the Commonwealth Games after moving into the quarter-finals of the -60kg category.

Cordina secured a first-round knock-down en route to exacting revenge against Canadian David Gauthier - who beat him in their last bout - to move within one more victory of at least a bronze medal.

"I didn't expect to get an early knockdown, but it gave me a lot of confidence," he told BBC Sport.

"I got my chance to take revenge for when he beat me in our last fight. All I want now is the gold."

The Welshman's opposition for his last-eight encounter is yet to be determined.
