Joe Cordina edges toward podium with David Gauthier win

Boxer Joe Cordina edges closer to a podium finish for Wales after beating Canada's David Gauthier in their -60kg bout at the Commonwealth Games.

Wales boxer Joe Cordina is one victory away from a guaranteed podium finish at the Commonwealth Games after beating David Gauthier to book a quarter-final place.

Cordina got off to a flyer early on by knocking his Canadian counterpart to the mat en route to a 10-9 first-round win.

The two-time Welsh senior champion then comfortably won the remaining rounds to move within one more victory of securing at least a bronze medal in Glasgow this summer.

His opponent in the last eight has yet to be determined.
