Muhammad Ali: 'I would have won gold'

Team GB boxer Muhammad Ali tells Sports Mole that he would have taken gold at the 2015 European Games if his last-16 fight had not been stopped.

Team GB boxer Muhammad Ali believes that he would have won gold at the 2015 European Games this summer if his last-16 bout with Vincenzo Picardi on Saturday was not stopped in the first round.

The referee intervened when Picardi's head cut the eye of Ali, and the 19-year-old exited the competition in the most unfortunate of fashions.

Ali, however, has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment.

"Seeing all of the other guys in the competition, I knew that I could have beaten them all. I knew I could have won that gold quite easily. It was just unfortunate," he told Sports Mole.

"I am disappointed, but obviously I just have to put it behind me and look forward to the next competition (the Europeans) and try and prepare the best possible way that I can and just try to win gold out there."

Ali overcame Alexandr Riscan in his first bout in Baku.
