George Groves has successfully defended his WBA international super-middleweight title courtesy of a unanimous points victory over Eduard Gutknecht at Wembley Arena this evening.
After a scrappy start to the fight, Groves gradually took control and began to pick the German off with a number of well-placed shots.
Gutknecht looked to be on his last legs a number of times, but he bravely hung on despite also suffering a cut and bad swelling over his right eye towards the end of the fight.
Groves pushed for a knockout in the final round, but Gutknecht refused to go down and made it to the final bell before the judges unanimously awarded the win to Groves.
The Brit is now expected to get a fourth shot at a world title, with Groves hoping to face Fedor Chudinov for the vacant WBA title in the spring.
