Is Amir Khan vs. Robert Guerrero a Possibility for the Future?

British superstar Amir "King Khan" is slated to face off against American Devon Alexander on 13th December in Las Vegas Nevada. It's a huge fight for each man, with the winner potentially being in line to face Floyd "Money" Mayweather, whilst the loser will drop substantially down the rankings. But even if Khan wins, is a fight with Mayweather likely?

Khan won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, at the age of just 17. Since then, he's become one of the top professional fighters in the world. He's a superstar in the UK, he's always in the news, and he busies himself away from the ring as well, participating in various charity events whilst also serving as a MaxiNutrition Brand Ambassador. Even those who are not fans of Khan must agree that he is a supreme athletic and physical talent.

Some pundits are saying that Khan's next fight, even after a win against Alexander, may be against American Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. Guerrero has previously faced Mayweather, dropping a wide decision in May 2013 to the pound-for-pound ace. Prior to that though, he defeated the likes of Andre Berto in the Welterweight division, giving him credibility there.

Khan's most recent effort against Luis Collazo was a solid victory, yet it wasn't a high profile win of the likes that launched Guerrero into his date against Mayweather. Therefore, Khan may need to make several more statements before he lures Mayweather into the ring.

Further, there is the potential that Mayweather finally warms up to the mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao for his next fight in May. In this case, Khan would have to bide his time with a different fight in the interim. A Khan vs. Guerrero bout would therefore make a great potential co-feature on the same bill as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Guerrero is an exciting and fan-friendly fighter, and he and Khan should engage in a memorable contest. If the winners of both bouts are promised to fight one another, it would create an even bigger spectacle for the already huge event.

From there, Khan could clash against Mayweather in fall of 2015, potentially in the last fight of Mayweather's Hall of Fame career. The fight could be a smash sell out hit at Wembley, putting 80,000 fans or more into the stadium on fight night.

In the sport of boxing it's hard to predict what comes next, because anything can happen in the ring on fight night. First up for Khan is the 13th December against Alexander, and he'll be fully focused on that bout. From there though, he could jump straight into a match against the great Mayweather, or opt to try to take out someone such as Guerrero, before meeting Mayweather in a massive fight in fall 2015.
