George Groves: 'Martin Murray fight would be ideal'

British super-middleweight George Groves feels that a domestic showdown with Martin Murray would be an "ideal fight" for him later this year.

George Groves has reiterated that he is keen to face Martin Murray in an all-British super-middleweight showdown later this year.

The Londoner returned to winning ways last weekend by stopping Andrea Di Luisa in five rounds ahead of what he hopes will be a successful route towards a fourth world title challenge in 2016.

Murray has also expressed an interest in meeting Groves in the spring or early summer, and Groves says that a clash with the St Helens man would be an "ideal fight" for him at this stage of his career.

The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I think that's an ideal fight for me right now.

"He has challenged for world titles, he has moved up from middleweight and lost a split decision to Arthur Abraham so he proved he belongs in good company. I feel it's a fight I'm very comfortable taking and winning - and winning well.

"I think the British fans would enjoy it, see it as a real 50-50 fight maybe and as I said, I'd certainly take it. And I know he's interested. If he's willing to come all the way down to watch me box, he must be interested."

Groves has won 22 of his 25 fights as a professional, while Murray has emerged victorious in 32 of his 36 outings in the paid ranks.
