George Groves eyeing move up world rankings

British super-middleweight George Groves admits that he cannot afford to slip up on his return to the ring against Andrea Di Luisa on Saturday night.

British super-middleweight George Groves has revealed that he is eyeing an impressive win against Andrea Di Luisa in order to secure himself a high position in the world rankings.

Despite losing on a split decision to WBC champion Badou Jack in September, Groves remains in third place with that governing body, but he does not hold a top-15 ranking with either the WBA, IBF or WBO.

With Callum Smith and Hadillah Mohoumadi already scheduled to compete in a final eliminator for the WBC strap, Groves is expected to target a different route, and the Londoner feels that he can secure a fourth world title opportunity if he can string together a few victories.

The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: "If you look at the champions out there now, you've got WBO Arthur Abraham who I share a promoter with, while both WBA champions are based in Germany and working with my promoter. The DeGale fight is there for both of us when it makes sense. I lost a split decision to Jack and kept my ranking.

"The doors are pretty open for me, whichever route we decide to choose. We just want to fight for a world title. All I've got to do is go out and win, build the rankings up and see which opportunities present themselves."

Groves heads into Saturday's bout in London with a professional record of 21 wins from 24 outings, while Di Luisa has 18 victories from 21 contests.
