The nominees for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award have been released.

Three golfers, two cricketers, two athletes and a cyclist, boxer, and tennis player make the ten-strong list which also represents all four nations of the United Kingdom.

There are also no women in this year's lineup.

Golfer Darren Clarke has been recognised for his triumph at this year's windy Open Championship, while fellow countryman Rory McIlroy's meteoric rise, which included success at the US Open this year has also led to a nomination.

World number one Luke Donald has also made the shortlist for his steady year, where he won the PGA Tour's money list.

Ashes winners Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook, who contributed to the win in Australia and England becoming the number one test side, have made the top 10 alongside cycler Mark Cavendish.

The Manx Missile has had an astonishing year, becoming the first British man to win the green jersey in the Tour de France and also triumphing in the world championship road race for Great Britain.

Two of Britain's most successful athletes from this year's world championships have also received recognition by the panel of sports editors who compiled the list.

Mo Farah and Dai Greene both won gold in Daegu, the former taking the 5,000m and silver in the 10,000m while Greene was victorious in the 400m hurdles.

The final two on the list are boxer Amir Khan, who has progressed in 2011 and is now looking to take on the world's elite such as Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Scottish tennis star Andy Murray.

The 24-year-old reached the semi-finals of all four grand slams this year and has now won 21 career singles titles.

Sports Mole's prediction for the top three:

1. Mark Cavendish
2. Rory McIlroy
3. Mo Farah

The 58th winner of the award will be selected by public vote during the live show on Thursday, 22 December.
