Australia's Andrew Moloney secures flyweight gold in Glasgow

Australia's Andrew Moloney secures gold in the flyweight division at the Commonwealth Games with a unanimous points victory over Muhammad Waseem of Pakistan.

Australia have picked up their second boxing gold medal of the day as Andrew Moloney secured victory in the flyweight division with a win over Muhammad Waseem.

Moloney held his nerve early on to frustrate Waseem, who was keen to encourage his rival to adopt an attacking approach early on as he looked for areas to exploit.

However, the Australian proved to be too smart for Pakistan's boxing captain as he calmly picked his spots to land a number of clean blows in each of the first two rounds.

Waseem, perhaps sensing that he was behind on the scorecards, increased the tempo to finally trouble his opponent with a series of combinations, but a unanimous decision in favour of the Moloney was eventually confirmed.

Moloney's success in the ring came shortly after Shelley Watts had triumphed in her lightweight final.
