Reece McFadden: "I didn't come here for bronze"

Scotland boxer Reece McFadden says that he was "gutted and disappointed" not to win gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

Scotland boxer Reece McFadden has said that he did not 'come for bronze' at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

McFadden was seen as the favourite to win gold in the flyweight category following a brilliant Games, but bowed out of the competition on Friday to Australia's Andrew Moloney.

The Scot also claimed that a cut to his eye harmed his performance in the semi-final.

"I am absolutely delighted [with a bronze], but still just gutted and disappointed about the outcome," he told reporters.

"I have had three tough, tough fights and [Maloney] has only had two, maybe he had just a little bit more energy.

"I didn't come here for bronze, I came here for the gold and I was positive I was going to get the gold. I had a cut on my eye as well which affected me."

Every boxing final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games will take place tomorrow.
