Doc Rivers criticises apology from Donald Sterling

Doc Rivers criticises Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for the comments made in his public apology.

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has criticised the franchise's owner Donald Sterling for his apology in the fallout from the racism scandal.

Sterling, who was fined $2.5m (£1.5m) for suggesting to his girlfriend that he did not want black people to attend Clippers games, made comments to the same woman about her friendship with Hall of Fame member Magic Johnson last month.

The 80-year-old elected to accuse Johnson of not doing enough to help minorities in Los Angeles as he made a public apology on Monday, but the 54-year-old has received support from the Clippers coach.

"Obviously I know who Magic is," Rivers told reporters. "I'll stand by Magic every day of the year because I've known him for a long time. Having said that, I don't know what's going on out there.

"I tried not to get involved in that part of it right now. Whatever it is, that doesn't sound like much of an apology to me."

The NBA are currently attempting to force Sterling to sell the Clippers after banning him for life from the league.
