David Oliver, Aries Merritt ease into 110m hurdles final

Reigning world champion David Oliver and compatriot Aries Merritt ease into the final of the men's 110m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships.

American duo David Oliver and Aries Merritt have both eased into the final of the men's 110m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships.

Merritt, the world record holder in this event, was the fastest overall in the semi-finals with a season's best time of 13.08s, edging out Omar McLeod in his heat.

Reigning champion Oliver could only manage second in his semi, however, as Dimitri Bascou of France put in a personal-best time of 13.16s.

There was disappointment for Great Britain's Lawrence Clarke, as he failed to make the final having finished seventh in his semi with a time of 13.53s.

Elsewhere, 2013 bronze medallist Sergey Shubenkov cruised into the final with a time of 13.09s, while Jamaica's Hansle Parchment finished second in the opening heat.

French duo Garfield Darien and Pascal Martinot-Lagarde make up the start list for the final after qualifying as the fastest losers.
