Jessica Ennis-Hill targets World Championship participation

Great Britian's Jessica Ennis-Hill is hoping to compete at the World Championships in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has revealed that her plan is to compete at next year's World Championships.

After her success at London 2012, the 28-year-old missed the World Championships in Moscow a year later because of injury, before sitting out the 2014 campaign following the birth of her son Reggie.

However, having returned to training, the Brit has confirmed that she is eager to compete in Beijing ahead of the defence of her heptathlon title at Rio 2016.

"At the moment it's just about taking small steps but I'm hoping to compete again next summer. The World Championships in Beijing is a realistic aim and would be great," she told Sky Sports News. "But the main aim is the Rio Olympics, that's where I want to be back at the top of my game."

Ennis-Hill won gold at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
