Great Britain's Christine Ohuruogo wins 400m at Birmingham Diamond League

Great Britain's Christine Ohuruogu wins the women's 400m race at the Diamond League event in Birmingham.

Christine Ohuruogu delighted the home crowd in this afternoon's Diamond League event in Birmingham by winning the women's 400m event.

The 30-year-old world champion crossed the line in 51.40s to edge out American duo Joanna Atkins [51.53s] and Jessica Beard [51.63s].

Ohuruogu's compatriot Kelly Massey ran a new personal best of 51.96s in finishing fifth.

"I wasn't expecting that," Ohuruogu told reporters afterwards. "I was running down the home straight and saw that I was winning.

"It's good for the crowd to see that. The time wasn't all that great but it doesn't really matter."

Ohuruogo will defend her world title a year from now in Beijing.
