Dina Asher-Smith has admitted that she did not expect to perform so well at this afternoon's Diamond League meeting in Birmingham.
The 19-year-old ran Jeneba Tarmoh and Allyson Felix all the way in the 200m women's final at the Alexander Stadium today, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind the American duo with a time of 22.30s.
Only one British woman has ever run the distance quicker, and Asher-Smith revealed that she was struggling to believe what she had achieved.
"It is a bit unbelievable really – I didn't envisage running a time like that going into the race," she told reporters.
"Outside the Olympic Games and World Championships, the Diamond League offers some of the most prestigious races so to come third in one of them is just amazing."
Asher-Smith also broke the British 100m record last month.
