Great Britain's Greg Rutherford won gold in the men's long jump inside the Olympic Stadium this evening.

The 25-year-old, who has suffered with numerous injuries throughout his career, started the final slowly with a jump of 6.28m.

However, he got himself around the eight-metre mark with his next leap.

His winning distance eventually arrived on his fourth outing when he produced a jump of 8.31m.

That meant Australia's Mitchell Watt was forced to settle for silver, while America's Will Claye took the bronze medal.

Fellow Brit Chris Tomlinson finished in sixth with a best distance of 8.07m.

Rutherford's success came 20 minutes after his teammate Jessica Ennis had secured gold in the heptathlon.
