Mo Farah breaks Dave Moorcroft's 34-year-old British 3,000m record

Mo Farah wins the Diamond League's 3,000m race and breaks Dave Moorcroft's 34-year-old British 3,000m record in the process, just two months before the Rio Olympics.

Mo Farah has cruised to victory in the Birmingham Diamond League's 3,000m event, breaking Dave Moorcroft's 34-year-old British record in the process.

The 33-year-old collected his sixth British outdoor mark by clocking seven minutes 32.62 seconds at the Alexander Stadium, wiping out Moorcroft's time of seven minutes 32.79 seconds from 1982.

A year ago, the double Olympic champion pulled out on the eve of the event as doping allegations - which have been denied - were aimed at Alberto Salazar, his coach.

On Sunday, however, he followed the pacemakers through the first 2,000m before hanging on over the last 600m to take a tenth of a second off Moorcroft's long-standing mark.

Farah now holds the British record for the 1,500m, 3,000m, two miles, 5,000m, 10,000m and half-marathon, as well as four indoor national records.
