Eilidh Child targeting improvement ahead of World Championships

400m hurdler Eilidh Child reveals that she is focused on making improvements to her running ahead of next year's World Championships in Beijing.

British 400m hurdler Eilidh Child has insisted that she is looking forward to focusing her preparation on the World Championships in Beijing next summer.

This year has seen Child compete at both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships, but after having to contend with a busy schedule in 2014, the Scot has admitted that she is looking forward to training towards trying to beat the world's elite in China.

The 27-year-old told The Scotsman: "It's wonderful because it just means you can plan things a lot better. Trying to beat Kaliese Spencer is probably the wrong mindset to have, because although she is the target, there are so many other girls that I'll need to beat on the day too. For me, it's basically about how can I get better. That's more the aim.

"I always concentrate on things that I can control, because I can't control what she's going to do, so if I can just make sure I get faster, I get stronger, I get technically better, then hopefully I can get one over on her.

"The thing is you're going to have people like Zuzana Hejnova back next year. You don't know what she's going to come out and do and there's always someone that comes through."

After earning silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Child went one better by winning gold at the European Championships in Zurich.
