Jo Pavey, Greg Rutherford win writers' awards

European champions Jo Pavey and Greg Rutherford win the yearly British Athletics Writers' Association awards.

The British Athletics Writers' Association has voted Jo Pavey and Greg Rutherford as its 2014 Athletes of the Year.

The Cliff Temple Award for number one female athlete went to 41-year-old Pavey, who claimed a bronze medal in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games, before going on to win European Championship 10,000m gold in Zurich a few days later.

Sprinter Tiffany Porter finished second, with third spot going to 400m hurdler Eilidh Child.

The best male accolade - named the John Rodda Award - went to Rutherford for his Commonwealth and European gold in the long jump. The 28-year-old also jumped 8.51m to break the British record.

For the second year running sprinter Adam Gemili was the runner-up, with distance runner Mo Farah third.
