Ashley Bryant unconcerned by place at halfway stage in decathlon

England's Ashley Bryant insists that he will not concern himself with the decathlon standings at the halfway stage despite finishing the day in fourth.

Team England's Ashley Bryant has insisted that he will not worry about his position in the decathlon until the final stages tomorrow.

Bryant had a mixed day at Hampden Park as he struggled with a slight injury picked up in the high jump, but he still managed to finish fourth and give himself a chance of a medal when the event concludes tomorrow.

However, despite being well placed going into the last five events, Bryant is adamant that he won't get "hung up" on the standings as it could affect his performance tomorrow.

"The medal is where I want to be. To be honest I'm never normally too hung up on day one, so I don't really look at that overnight. It's all about where you are after 10 events," he told Sports Mole.

"People may have their stronger events on day one, you may have them on day two. If you get too hung up on it overnight then it can affect your performance. So I'll try to put it to the back of my head - javelin and 1,500m tomorrow we'll start looking at the points. Right now, no."

The 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m disciplines will take place tomorrow.
