Lovie Smith pleased with Da'Quan Bowers progress

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith believes that defensive end Da'Quan Bowers could finally make an impact at the club in his fourth season in the NFL.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith has revealed that he is pleased with what he has seen from defensive end Da'Quan Bowers during training camp.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact during his three years in the NFL with the Buccaneers as injuries have halted his progress on the field.

However, Smith feels that Bowers could been in line for a better campaign this year in a different role for the team.

"He could help us quite a bit because, as a general rule, we'll [dress] three [tackles] and three ends and we'll want our seventh [lineman] to be able to play both inside and out," Smith told the Tampa Tribune.

"And that's what you have in Da'Quan. He's right in between — big enough to rush inside on third downs and a good anchor outside on first down. So he gives us some flexibility. And I know he's been injured a lot, but he hasn't missed a beat since I've been here."

Bowers has recorded 45 tackles and 5.5 sacks in his three years in the NFL.
