Free agent linebacker Lance Briggs will visit with the San Francisco 49ers, according to a report.
The 34-year-old was allowed to leave the Chicago Bears at the end of the 2014 season after 12 years with the club, and has yet to be signed by a new team.
Jim Tomsula's men are in dire need of options at linebacker following the shock retirements of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland, which have left the NFC West side lacking depth at the position.
ESPN reports that Briggs will talk with the 49ers' coaches and hierarchy before either party decides over a potential move.
Briggs has recorded 1,173 tackles, 15 sacks and 16 interceptions in his 12-year career in the NFL.
