Colin Kaepernick: 'I will try to pay back every penny'

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick says that he aims to win many Super Bowls for the franchise after signing his new six-year contract.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has revealed his delight at signing a new contract with the franchise.

Kaepernick put pen to paper on a mega six-year deal on Wednesday.

He is set to earn $126m (£75.3m), including $60m (£35.8m) guaranteed up until 2020.

According to the team's Twitter feed, Kaepernick said: "I'm always striving to be in that elite group in the NFL. Not necessarily paid, but as far as a player. I'm going to work and try to make sure I'm worth every penny of this deal.

"I will try to win as many Super Bowls as I can for this team. I thank the back office, as they were able to get it done six weeks earlier than what I think everyone thought.

"The first thing I'll spend the money on? Well first I will make sure everyone in my family is set and, I guess, go from there!"

Kaepernick's guaranteed sum is the most ever given to an NFL player in one contract.
